How to BLOCK URL (HTTP and HTTPS) using Cisco

I have been asked days ago on how to block URL using Cisco specifically HTTPS traffic.
Here is what i have found : the Cisco ASA 5500 series Content security and Control Security Services Modules (CSC-SSM).

This Cisco ASA CSC-SSM provides :
  • antivirus
  • antispyware
  • file blocking
  • anti-spam
  • anti-phishing
  • URL blocking
  • URL filtering
  • content filtering
This Cisco Module is great. We know that network security helps preserve the integrity, stability, and availability of network ressources thus it increases employee productivity. Cisco ASA CSC-SSM contributes in network security through the following elements :
  • malware protection : The Cisco CSC-SSM utilizes Micro's award-wining anti-virus and anti-spyware which can prevent virtually all known malicious code from entering your network : this helps prevent disruption of business critical applications and services and employee downtime. It reduces the costly process of cleaning up after an infection
  • Content filering and antiphising : this prevent individual employees from the thelt of confidential information
  • Filters/Blocks URLs that you do not want users to access, or URLs that are known to have hidden or malicious purposes
There are 2 typess of content security Cisco ASA modules :
  • CSC-SSM-10
  • CSC-SSM-20
Please click right here, if you are interested to know about
  • Cisco ASA software version required of each of these modules
  • The licensing of each of these modules
  • the supported Cisco ASA appliances of each of these modules
  • the technical specifications and much more of each of these modules...

Now for those interested to BLOCK HTTPS traffic, you need software version  6.6.1125.0 on the CSC module. This version is only compatible with ASA version 8.4.2 and ASDM 6.4.5. For more information about the new features added to the CSC module software version 6.6.1125.0, check  >> right here
